from class:

Anatomy and Physiology I

Definition

The ovarian cycle is a series of events in the ovaries that occur during a woman's menstrual cycle, involving the maturation of an egg (oocyte) and preparation of the endometrium for potential pregnancy. It is divided into two main phases: the follicular phase, where an egg develops within its follicle, and the luteal phase, following ovulation, when the ruptured follicle transforms into the corpus luteum.
