Definition

A lumbar puncture, also known as a spinal tap, is a medical procedure in which a needle is inserted into the lower back to collect cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) from around the spinal cord. This procedure is used for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes related to the central nervous system.
