AP World History: Modern
Unit 8 – Cold War & Decolonization (1900-Present)
Topic 8.5
What impact did decolonization have on global economic structures after 1900?
The emergence of new national economies disrupted existing colonial trade networks but also created opportunities for new forms of economic exploitation like neo-colonialism.
Decolonization led to a universal decline in global trading activities.
Former colonial powers continued to exert direct control over the economies of newly independent nations without any changes or adaptations.
All newly independent countries immediately became economically self-sufficient with no outside intervention or dependency whatsoever.
