The Hollywood Ten were a group of film industry professionals who were cited for contempt of Congress and jailed for refusing to testify before the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC) during the Red Scare and McCarthyism era in the late 1940s. Their defiance against the HUAC's attempts to investigate alleged communist influence in Hollywood brought the issue of free speech and civil liberties to the forefront of the Cold War conflict.
