Definition

Eicosanoids are a group of bioactive lipids derived from arachidonic acid or other polyunsaturated fatty acids that play critical roles in inflammation, immunity, and as messengers in the central nervous system. They include prostaglandins, thromboxanes, leukotrienes, and others, each involved in various physiological and pathological processes.
