Intro to Biostatistics
Right censoring occurs when the outcome of interest in a study is not observed for some subjects by the end of the study period, typically because they have not experienced the event of interest. This is a common situation in survival analysis where individuals may drop out of a study, the study ends before the event occurs, or they are lost to follow-up. The key feature of right censoring is that we only know that the event of interest has not occurred up to a certain point in time, but we do not know what happens afterward.
