Intro to Human Sexuality
Twin studies are research designs used to understand the influence of genetics and environment on human behavior and traits, particularly in relation to sexual orientation development. By comparing similarities and differences between identical (monozygotic) twins, who share nearly all of their genetic material, and fraternal (dizygotic) twins, who share about 50%, researchers can assess the relative contributions of heredity and environment to sexual orientation. This approach helps clarify the nature versus nurture debate within the context of sexual orientation.
