Operant conditioning theory, developed by B.F. Skinner, suggests that behaviors are influenced by the consequences they produce. It emphasizes how reinforcements (rewards or punishments) shape and control our actions.
Positive reinforcement involves adding something desirable after a behavior occurs to increase the likelihood of that behavior happening again.
Negative reinforcement involves removing something aversive after a behavior occurs to increase the likelihood of that behavior happening again.
Punishment refers to any consequence following a behavior that decreases its likelihood of occurring again in the future.
