AP Psychology
Freud's structural model, also known as the psychic apparatus, is a theory proposed by Sigmund Freud that describes the three interconnected components of the human psyche: the id, ego, and superego.
According to Freud's structural model, the id operates on the pleasure principle and seeks immediate gratification of basic instincts.
The ego operates on the reality principle and mediates between the demands of the id and superego while considering external reality.
The superego represents our internalized ideals and moral standards learned from society. It acts as our conscience and strives for perfection.
