Erikson's initiative versus guilt stage is the third psychosocial stage in his theory of development. It occurs during early childhood (around 3-6 years old) and involves children developing a sense of purpose through taking initiative in activities or feeling guilty if they believe their actions are wrong.

Autonomy versus shame & doubt: The preceding stage in Erikson's theory where children develop autonomy by asserting control over their own actions or experience shame and doubt if they feel incapable.
Industry versus inferiority: The following stage in Erikson's theory where children develop a sense of competence and accomplishment or feel inferior if they believe they are unable to meet expectations.
