Bartolome de Las Casas was a Spanish Dominican friar, historian, and missionary who became an early advocate for the rights of Indigenous peoples in the Americas during the 16th century. He is best known for his passionate writings and speeches that criticized the mistreatment of Native Americans by Spanish colonizers, particularly in the context of the Columbian Exchange, where significant exchanges of goods, ideas, and populations took place between the Old and New Worlds.
