AP Chemistry
HCN is the chemical formula for hydrogen cyanide, which is a weak acid. In solution, it partially dissociates to produce hydrogen ions (H⁺) and cyanide ions (CN⁻).
An acid that only partially dissociates in water, producing fewer hydrogen ions.
Partial Dissociation: The incomplete separation of an ionic compound or acid into its constituent ions when dissolved in a solvent.
Toxicity: The degree to which a substance can harm living organisms; hydrogen cyanide (HCN) is highly toxic.
