Definition

A transient ischemic attack (TIA) is a temporary period of symptoms similar to those of a stroke, caused by a disruption in blood flow to part of the brain. Unlike a stroke, the symptoms of a TIA are short-lived and usually resolve within 24 hours without causing permanent damage.
