Definition

The pulmonary valve is a one-way valve located between the right ventricle and the pulmonary artery that prevents blood from flowing back into the heart once it has been ejected into the pulmonary circulation. It opens to allow deoxygenated blood to be pumped from the heart to the lungs for oxygenation.
