Definition

Protein metabolism involves the processes of synthesis (anabolism) and breakdown (catabolism) of proteins within the body to maintain cellular function, growth, and repair. It includes the digestion of proteins to amino acids, their absorption, and subsequent use in protein synthesis or energy production.
