Definition

The neural crest is a group of cells that emerges from the edge of the neural tube, an embryonic precursor to the central nervous system, during early vertebrate development. These cells migrate to various parts of the embryo where they differentiate into diverse cell types including neurons, glial cells, and melanocytes.
