Definition

The midbrain, or mesencephalon, is a part of the brainstem that serves as a bridge connecting the forebrain to the hindbrain and plays a crucial role in auditory and visual processing, motor control, and arousal. It integrates sensory information and relays it to the appropriate parts of the brain.
