Definition

Basal Metabolic Rate is the amount of energy expended while at rest in a neutrally temperate environment, necessary to maintain the function of vital organs such as the heart, lungs, and brain. It represents the minimum amount of energy needed to keep your body functioning, including breathing and maintaining body temperature.
