Definition

Aortic sinuses are small dilations located at the base of the ascending aorta, just above the aortic valve, where they serve as pockets between the aortic wall and the cusps of the aortic valve. These sinuses help in ensuring smooth blood flow from the heart into the aorta and play a role in coronary circulation by providing the opening for coronary arteries.
