Amerigo Vespucci was an Italian explorer and navigator in the late 15th and early 16th centuries, known for his voyages to the New World and for being one of the first to suggest that the lands discovered by Europeans were part of a separate continent, distinct from Asia. His contributions to exploration and mapping helped to shape European understanding of the Americas and ultimately led to the continent being named after him.
